Message We got our regular truckload of JDM clips in last week.
One car had quite a few aftermarket parts on it, some of which I haven't seen before. I wanted to ask if any of you could help me identify some of them, in particular this set of HKS turbos.

5-bolt turbine housing looks like that from a 2530. Turbine wheel is smaller though and uses an 11 blade wheel compared to the 9 on the 2530. Compressor housing is an HKS casting but about the same size as stock.

The compressor wheel is also smaller than the one for 2530s. I guess the thing that has me confused about these is the fact that HKS went to the trouble and substatial expense of having a casting made roughly the same size as stock, and I've never seen this turbo kit for sale here in the US. I've never found where they list anything other than the 2530's for the 300zx. Its not a generic turbo or for some other car, its been my experience that the flanges on the 300zx compressor housings are at an orientation of their own. HKS was the only company that I knew of that had actually made a compressor housing casting specifically for the 300zx, which was used on the 2530s. Well apparently they made at least 2. All the other companies, JWT, PE, even Z1 are forced to modify existing housings and add on CNC'd flanges due to the enormous tooling costs to make a custom compressor housing. Looks like this turbo kit was designed for quicker response and less peak power than the 2530. Anyone see these before?

Then we have a set of Nismo 52mm gauges.

Oil filter relocation kit.

A bracket screwed on to the bottom of the oil filter bracket with these montrous braided lines running out of it to the front. The oil filter was mounted in line with the oil cooler at this point.
Looks as though this would force ALL the oil through the filter and then through the cooler, which is a little different than the way the stock set up works.

You would change the oil filter by removing the front center panel.

The car also had a set of polished hardpipes with bright green couplers and a motor with metal headgaskets and adjustable cam gears that I haven't torn into yet.

We usually pick up 5-10 front clips at a time and our supplier has been the best at delivering solid low mileage front clips. The cool thing is that these guys actually go over and select the cars, drive them, film them for us, send us video links, cut them in half, and they show up at our door 6 weeks later. So the engines haven't been sitting up for a long time, they have been ran and boosted to check for any problems, and the gauge cluster is still in them to verify everything.

Video links of a couple of the clips we have on the way now:

We also run and compression test them once they arrive. Sure we pay a little more for them, but well worth it considering the junk that the majority of JDM suppliers sell here. From time to time we have had them come in with upgrades like this, its always interesting to see some of the different directions they take in Japan towards performance.
